One cannot build a thriving community without building a safe community.

In every town where we work across South Africa, community safety arises as one of key pain points. How can people thrive in every sense of the word if they do not feel safe where they live, walk, go to school, play or work?

Collaborating with local community safety initiatives and law enforcement roleplayers is an integral part of Ranyaka’s community transformation model. Active citizenry is crucial and groups such as Community Policing Forums (CPFs), neighbourhood watch groups and other community-based safety programmes have an important role to play in the bigger community safety picture.

During the month of May 2022 in Zwide, Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, we had the opportunity to donate reflective vests, torches and two-way radios to the Zwide Community Development Community during a meeting around the theme of strengthening community safety initiatives.

Thank you to the Nedbank Proud of my Town (PoMT) programme for the donation of these critical items that will enable community-based safety initiatives to do what they do, even more effectively.

Community Safety is one of ten programmes that forms part of the Nedbank PoMT initiative, for which Ranyaka is the national implementation agent.
