ZWIDE

GQEBERHA, EASTERN CAPE

iBhayi or eBhayi is a Xhosa word meaning “the bay”. Although Ibhayi is the name used for the collection of  townships north of Gqeberha, it is also used as a name for the city amongst Xhosa-speaking people

Zwide forms part of a larger town Ibhayi in Nelson Mandela Bay (Gqeberha). It is a bustling area close to the City and home to approximately 90,000 people. Main transport routes link the area to the City and plenty of business activity takes place along these routes.

A number of schools and educational facilities such as Nelson Mandela University’s Missionvale Campus, ensure that children and students of all ages can reach their potential. The Den Qeqe Stadium is one of the bigger stadiums in Zwide and provides space for sport and recreation activities. The Struandale industrial area on the Western side of Zwide is a popular industrial node in Nelson Mandela Bay and provides some of the Zwide residents with employment opportunities.
