SOME BACKGROUND
Ranyaka started working in Magaliesburg in 2013, launching the Magalies Development Initiative (MDI) in collaboration with the community of Magalies and local stakeholders.
The MDI is not an organisation. It is a citizens’ networking programme that was launched in 2013 to unlock the resources of the town of Magaliesburg. Today, the work of the MDI testifies to the power of a community mobilising itself and taking ownership of its development.
Magaliesburg is also part of Nedbank’s Proud of my Town initiative, for which Ranyaka is the implementing agent. For the past six years, Ranyaka has been working with the community of Magalies to help bring about positive socio-economic change in a manner that is sustainable and driven by local change agents.
