Over 600 children from 20 crèches will benefit from Nedbank’s Proud about my Town fund, launched in Stellenbosch on Friday.

Crèches principals, stakeholders from the ECD arena, as well as representatives from Nedbank and the Stellenbosch Municipality joined in a festive breakfast to celebrate the start of a productive partnership.

Stellenbosch Executive Mayor, Adv. Gesie van Deventer attended the launch and pledged her support towards the initiative which focuses on capacity building, nutrition, health and safety. A key element of the initiative is to assist crèches to obtain registration with the Department of Social Development.

“We all know that children who grow up in a safe and stimulating space where both their basic and developmental needs are met, become healthy and productive adults. We are not merely raising children. We are contributing towards building a stronger society.’ – Nedbank Provincial Manager of Retail and Relationship banking, Ashrinee Gopi.

Of course we’d like the programme to include many more crèches and so, as the fund grows, so will the programme’s capacity to include even more ECD centres from across Stellenbosch.

Stellenbosch is the second town to benefit from the Proud of my Town programme. The fund was first launched in Paarl in August 2017 and has since made a difference in the lives of 1,017 children from 40 crèches. The project is still running in Paarl, with the painting of several crèches with fire retardant (intumescent) paint next on the project schedule.

HOW DOES THE FUND WORK?

Nedbank has committed to donating a percentage of the monthly transactional fees of all clients in Stellenbosch towards the fund – at no additional cost to their clients. This means that if you’re a Nedbank client in Stellenbosch, you’re contributing – and it’s not costing you.

Thank you to every individual and organisation who has partnered with us on this journey. This is a team effort and we are excited about what we can achieve – together!
