Over the next few weeks, in support of local businesses, we will be showcasing some of the entrepreneurs who are participating in Ranyaka’s Building Business programme. First in line is Muain Arnolds, the entrepreneur behind Shuttle Master in Stellenbosch!

Muain was born and raised in Idas Valley where he still lives happily with his wife and three children.

A few years ago, he bought himself a Mercedes Benz as a weekend car. After a while, he realised that he wasn’t driving it enough. Muain said to himself, “Look: I have it, I’m paying for it anyway. I might as well put it to work to cover the costs involved.” And this is where the foundation of Shuttle Master (Pty) Ltd was established.

Fast forward a few years and the Shuttle Master team can now accommodate their clients with quite a few vehicle options and routes.

Being an entrepreneur is definitely not for the faint at heart. The biggest challenge Muain faced when starting his business was getting a fixed base of clients. “Which in my case meant getting accounts with hotels, guesthouses, corporate companies and organisations,” explains Muain.

There are many other shuttle companies out there, but in Muain’s view, what makes Shuttle Master unique, is their philosophy: To always offer flexibility. “We had to craft a tailored experience and offer outstanding service to each and every client who booked with us – be it airport groups or students going on an outing. We make sure that our drivers are always on time and that we have the capability to be flexible.”

At this stage, all Shuttle Master’s vehicles are still parked where they were right at the beginning of the nationwide lockdown. “The Covid-19 pandemic is a big blow for us,” he says. “Many businesses like mine are not making it – they’re selling their vehicles and struggling to make ends meet.” Muain does, however, believe that this time has taught him valuable lessons regarding managing and planning financially.

As a newcomer to the Ranyaka Building Business programme, he is thankful to be part of a bigger community.

What better time to support small businesses than today?

“On a recent visit to Cape Town, I was blown away by services rendered by a small business called ‘Shuttle Master’ directed by Muain Arnolds! From previous visits to Cape Town I have never experienced the hospitality and security offered by them. At a reasonable rate I was able to sightsee many landmarks that Cape Town has to offer! From airport transfer and travel to the hotel in comfort and luxury! Thank you for your exemplary services,” – Usha Haribajan from Durban
