Numbers can numb us. We hear big numbers about big problems. Hundreds of thousands victims of abuse, addiction and violence. Hundreds of thousands unemployed, unskilled and desperate. We hear the numbers, but the faces behind those numbers and the stories of those individuals get lost amongst the many zeros.
The tears disappear.
As we celebrate National Child Protection Week, let us remind ourselves that Every. Life. Matters. Every story counts. Every child we help, is a life potentially turned around – and not only for that child, but for his or her children and generations to come.
May the numbers not numb us, but activate us to keep working to create safer spaces for our children. To listen to the one. To really SEE. And to act.
