Neighbourhood watch groups have proven to be highly effective in reducing crime rates in communities.
On Friday, Ranyaka handed over reflective vests and torches to the Jamestown Neighbourhood Watch to assist them in this important task. Deputy-chairperson, Burton Williams, received the donation on behalf of the group and ward councillor, Rikus Badenhorst, underscored the importance of the work being done by the group.
The neighbourhood watch in Jamestown, Stellenbosch, was established in 2007 and today, 35 active members patrol the streets of Jamestown several times a week to keep a watchful eye on the community they call home.
Thank you to this group of committed community members who are sacrificing their time (and sleep!) to help make Jamestown a safer place for its residents. Jamestown is one of several areas that forms part of Nedbank’s Proud of my Town initiative. Thanks to the support of Nedbank, Ranyaka is able to support initiatives such as these.
A big thank you to Barbara Fassler from Platform 43 for making their beautiful venue available to us for the hand-over event
